Gamma Knife "PERFEXION"

Gamma Knife Perfexion Brochure

The Gamma Knife Perfexion is actually not a knife, but a machine that directs 192 beams of highly focused cobalt gamma radiation to destroy brain tumors and abnormalities. A radiosurgical plan conforms treatment to the exact geometry of each patient's tumor or abnormality, minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue, while maximizing damage to abnormal tissue. Gamma Knife is considered the "Gold Standard" radiosurgery.

The treatment is non-invasive (no incisions) and can be used as an alternative or supplement to conventional surgery. Brain tumors and malformations that were once thought to be inoperable can now be safely and effectively treated. Patients who are poor candidates for conventional surgery due to age, certain health conditions, or an inability to tolerate general anesthesia, may also benefit from Gamma Knife radiosurgery.

Continuing its commitment to providing innovating treatment option and excelling in patient care, Kettering Medical Center and Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute (WKNI) now offer The Gamma Knife Perfexion. The Gamma Knife Perfexion is the result of more than four decades of extensive research and clinical experience. The Gamma Knife Perfexion at WKNI is the only one in Southwest Ohio and one of only a few in the world.
