Brain Imaging Study
in Patients with Schizophrenia
Patients with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, or psychotic disorder, not otherwise specified (NOS), are needed for a brain imaging study being conducted by the Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute at Kettering Medical Center.
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET) of the D2 receptors and glucose metabolic activity.
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of brain structure and metabolic activation.
There is no charge and patients will also receive an honorarium for time and expenses. Patients can be studied in a timely manner but this must be before antipsychotic medication treatment begins.
Patients receiving psychoactive medication, or with a history of severe head injury, epilepsy, or other neurological illnesses are not suitable.
Patients can be studied as inpatients or outpatients and can be referred back to the referring center, or psychiatric care disposition can be arranged by the project staff.
This study is a joint venture of the Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute and the Wright State School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.
